AI Chat VaultPrivacy policy
AI Chat Vault is a Chrome extension made by Manhar Anand, an individual developer based in India ("I", "me"). This policy explains what data the extension handles and where it goes. In short: your chats and prompts stay on your computer, and I never see them.
Data the extension handles
Your conversations
When you open or export a conversation on chatgpt.com or claude.ai, the extension reads that conversation, either from the page or by requesting it from that website using the session you are already signed in with. That request goes directly from your browser to OpenAI or Anthropic, the same way the website itself loads your chat. It does not pass through any server of mine.
The conversation is saved in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) so you can search it later. You can turn off automatic saving in the extension's Settings.
Your prompts, folders, tags and settings
These are saved in your browser's local storage and never leave it.
Export counter
To apply the free daily limit, the extension stores which conversations you exported today. This also stays in your browser.
Pro license key
If you buy Pro and enter your license key, the extension sends the key and a label for your browser, such as "Chrome on Windows", to Dodo Payments to check that the key is valid. It does this when you activate the key and then about once a week. No conversation content, prompts or browsing data are ever included. This is the only network request the extension makes on its own.
Data I do not collect
- No analytics, tracking or telemetry of any kind.
- No advertising, and no data is sold or shared with anyone.
- No account is needed, and the extension does not know who you are.
- The extension does not run on any website other than chatgpt.com and claude.ai.
AI Chat Vault complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements: data is used only to provide the extension's features, and is never transferred, sold or used for advertising.
Payments
Pro purchases are processed by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record. Dodo Payments collects your name, email address and payment details to process the payment and send you your license key, under its own privacy policy. I receive your name, email address and purchase details from Dodo Payments so I can provide support and handle refunds. I never receive your card details.
Permissions the extension asks for
- Access to chatgpt.com and claude.ai: to add the Export button and read the conversation you export or save.
- Storage and unlimited storage: to keep your vault in your browser, and to stop Chrome from clearing it when disk space runs low.
- Side panel: to show your library next to the chat.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays in your browser until you delete it. You can delete any chat or prompt in the side panel. Removing the extension from Chrome deletes everything it stored. Backup files you download are ordinary files on your computer, and you control them.
This website
This website uses no cookies and no analytics. It is hosted on GitHub Pages, and GitHub may log technical data such as IP addresses under its own privacy policy. The thank-you page shows your license key from the checkout link; the key is displayed only in your browser and is not sent anywhere.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. If a change affects what data leaves your computer, it will also be mentioned in the extension's update notes.
